Black Bean Soup

I developed this recipe several years ago when I decided I needed a super healthy and tasty soup made of ingredients easy to have on hand and easy to assemble.  I spread out as many black bean soup recipes as I could find and picked and chose ingredients from them all, and this is the result.  If you like a bit more spice, increase the hot pepper sauce or chili powder.  It's great cold as a snack, too!

1 pint (2 cups) canned tomatoes, chopped

1 pint (2 cups) black beans, including liquid

1 carrot, peeled and grated

1/2 onion, chopped

2-3 cloves fresh garlic, grated

1/2 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

1 teaspoon chili powder

1/2 teaspoon cumin

8 drops hot pepper sauce (such as Tabasco)

1 cup water
